How is January going? Are you in any sort of routine yet? Despite being back to work last week, I’m still not in the rhythm and I’m certainly not productive. This image is a reminder that I am going to be raising my bar in my business this year and I know it won’t happen if I just try to wing it. Planning is needed.
I’ve brushed off my Productivity Planner and I’m planning out my week. You don’t need to buy a special planner to be productive, you can use all or some of the methodology it promotes to move towards your goals or intentions.

To maintain focus and momentum, just use a simple method for being productive. Firstly you must be clear about what you want to achieve. Write down your desired outcomes and then work backwards. Just by writing down your goals and plans it increases the likelihood of you achieving them by 30%. Next is to determine what needs to be achieved across a month and therefore on a weekly basis.
Monthly and weekly
- Determine and commit to an outcome for the next month
- Detail the tasks associated with achieving that outcome
- Plot them backwards by week and then the day
- Note the tasks that remain in order to achieve your planned monthly outcome. This includes any slippage from previous weeks, this is OK, things change
- Add the tasks from 1. into a list of all other tasks that you are required to achieve. These include tasks required for wellbeing, family and similarly ensure balance across your week. Ideally, it’s good to have monthly outcomes for these areas too
- Identify which tasks are urgent, important or nice to have
- Acknowledge what may need to be sacrificed in order to achieve your urgent or important goals. There may be a trade-off
- Identify any tasks which can be entirely removed from your list or moved to a future day or week
- Order the tasks, starting with the most important
- Make a start, avoid procrastination
